"It is an act of rebellion, an act of anti-capitalism, to embrace joy over the seriousness of grind culture. My work highlights and dismantles hierarchies by combining materials and imagery that don't usually live together. Combining the fine art connotation and childhood craft connotation of oil painting with glitter glue. A Venus-like shell sitting comfortably with a Cheez-It. Contrasting the grandiose with the mundane, the truthful, and the silly.
I use classical painting approaches to render my own own personal imagery, as a method of inserting my own queer narrative into a canon of historical significance. It’s liberating to paint in way that was, for most of history, restricted to white, cisgender, straight men."
